Father Day Concert
IRISH SINGER CATHIE RYAN IN A FREE FATHER’S DAY LAWN CONCERT SUNDAY, JUNE 16 at 6 PM.
Every Father’s Day, the Trustees of Bacon Free Library thank the library's current supporters and welcome a whole crop of new ones with a library open house and a free 6 pm concert on the lawn – the library’s lawn at 58 Eliot St. in South Natick which overlooks the spectacular waterfall on the narrowing Charles River.
“Usually it’s been a jazz concert but this year we’re going Irish,” said Library Director John Brisbin. “We are absolutely excited to present one of the leading voices in Celtic Music, Cathie Ryan.” The stunning lead vocalist of Cherish the Ladies for nearly six years, Cathie has been on her own for a decade. She has released five award winning CDs including 2012’s Through the Wind and the Rain. Listen to the critical acclaim:
“…the perfect marriage of voice and verse…The stubborn beauty of her CD [The Farthest Wave] is a revelation.” — The Wall St Journal
“…mature, masterful, at times magnificent singing… For anyone wondering what constitutes excellence in Irish American singing today, you need only attend a Cathie Ryan concert or listen to her most recent CD.”
— The Irish Echo, NY
“Irish American vocalist Cathie Ryan has an enchanting voice, she sings with emotive power and an immaculate clarity. …..her performance is striking.” — Billboard Magazine (starred review)
“Concert of the Year Award …Cathie Ryan, our Female Vocalist of the Decade, is quite simply the best….She and her talented, versatile band give the definitive live Irish music performance.”
— Irish American News, Chicago

Strides of Progress
In the past two years, The Trustees of Bacon Free Library, chaired by Patrick Hayes, have successfully lobbied Town Finance Committee (or FinCom) and other levels of Town leadership for 30% more weekly library hours and partial restoration of book funds. Though there’s still urgency, Bacon is making strides of progress.
Board Treasurer John Manning recently told FinCom that Trustees were planning a larger fundraiser as well as a second Trustees Comedy Night at TCAN, The Center of the Arts in Natick.
This past November 1st Trustees held the first ever Comedy Night fundraiser for the library. Sponsors were Roche Brothers Super Markets, Trader Joe's Neighborhood Grocery Store in Needham, Higgins Wine and Spirits in Dover and Nestle Waters North America. Comedians Jim Colliton and Joe Yannetty, both Boston area guys but with plenty of Las Vegas, Comedy Central and luxury cruise experience, were a big hit with the crowd.
