Author Visit

Author Juliette Fay seen with Library Director John Brisbin on her recent visit to Bacon Free Library, Natick, MA, where she did a reading and book signing; and held a discussion of the creative process and the difficulties in getting published. Her most recent and award winning novel is Shortest Way Home.

"The April 30th 'Welcome to the Graveyard' program presented by Bacon Free Library and the Natick Historic Society, and supported by a grant from Natick Cultural Council, was an enormous success," said Bacon's Library Director John Brisbin. "We had a capacity crowd in the library to see Gravestone Girls' Brenda Sullivan's Power Point on what our local and area cemeteries can tell us about ourselves 1651 to the present."
"A ton of people arrived early," Brisbin said. Many had to stand or else sit in the library's window seat in the very back; and no one wanted to leave even at 9:30 pm!"

No registration required. Walk-ins are welcome!
Stories on many subject areas are being planned by dynamic Children’s Librarian Holley Meyer.
Holley is hard at work planning stories about:
bears and hibernation on January 16 and 18; polar bears on January 23 and 25; ground hog day on January 30 and February 1; on Chinese New Year on February 6 and 8; on Valentine’s Day February 13 and 15. Parents of preschoolers, please share your concerns about your child’s reading readiness with Holley. She can help.

Children’s Librarian Holley Meyer’s Simple Reading Readiness Advice for Parents Read to your child-- Read something to him or her every day. Take a book with you wherever you go so, if there's down time, you two (or more) can open the book and get involved in a story. Bacon Free Library has an excellent collection of audio books for kids. They're great for long car rides. Sing to your child -- Sing things that rhyme like nursery rhymes. Sing lullabies. Clap hands. Develop rhythm. Talk to your child -- Use a good vocabulary. Pronounce words correctly and completely. Use complete sentences. Holley can recommend further resources for parents and for parent and child to use together. talk to her. |
